Blog # 1

While reading Everything is an Argument, i realized how many things in life really are an argument. Everyday street signs you pass by, the news you listen to every morning, our moral fight to go to war, our fight for our own religion, and the list could go on and on. Almost everything we do, see, or hear everyday is in some form an argument. You can also argue about anything from the past present to the future.
Although just like in paper, speeches, etc your main focus is always going to be your audience. Yes, your argument is important but if it makes no sense to your audience then your point will never be made. Its always helpful to use emotional, ethical, and logical appeals when making an argument. These strategies help to draw in ones focus while using emotion to take a stronger toll on the message.
While looking through the writers resource i realized what a great resource this book is going to be when it comes time to writing papers. Throughout the sections i read, this book covered annotations, making claims, and how to use strong language. It also went into great detail about how to start getting ideas following when it comes time to writing that first draft. This book even went into great detail on how to edit your final draft and really make it A+ work.
While reading the first article One Picture Is Worth a Thousand Diets, i was stunned to see how true everything i was reading really is. This author was trying to show his audience what a crude world this had become, and how image is so important to the average woman. He talked about how after the hundreds of magazines, commercials, and newspapers he saw, how they only use limited heavier people. We all might wonder if it wasn't for the media making weight such a huge factor to ones appearances, would it really matter what dress size you were? The next article was very similar, only instead talking about men's underwear. The author brought to attention how every pair of underwear these days, has a built half naked man on the front package. However when you look at underwear for larger men, there is no picture at all. Why is this? Once again this is the media playing a huge role in our society's view on what our perfect image should be. However no one is perfect, and you should love the body you live in.
