Throughout my English 102 course I have learned many things that have made me a better writer. I would say the most important thing I learned in this class was how to use the Schaffer Model. The Schaffer model was something I had never seen until this class, but was something I wish I had learned years ago. While writing my final research paper for this class I used this model, and it made writing my paper so much easier. Another first while in this class was having to write weekly blogs. Yes everyone blogs online and uses the Internet, but this was a new form of blogging for me. We were expected to keep up with our blogs every week, and were expected to write about various topics. One of the most challenging assignments of this course was our critical analysis we has to write on the movie Beautiful Girls. Of course everyone can write a basic summary of a movie, but or assignment was to form an argument. We had to determine the purpose of the movie and write a paper forming our own argument.
We also got the chance to learn more efficient ways of researching, and how to use the information we found. We had a 7-10 page research paper due at the end of the semester, and the tools I learned throughout this class improved my paper greatly. I learned how to find reliable sources, and where the best places to find sources was. Although many students believe all English classes are alike, I really do believe I have taken many things from this class. I have learned many new methods that will greatly benefit me throughout school.
Although i might not of always seemed like the best student or that i was very prepared, i will definitely take a lot from this class. In most English classes i never really learn anything, i feel like its just the same thing over and over again. However i actually feel like i learned skills that will help me become a better writer. Thank you for your patience with Liz and I, but we had a lot of fun.

My research paper was definitely a a huge process. I don't think i ever put so much time or effort into writing a single paper. I have always been a bit of a procrastinator when it comes to writing papers because i feel like i write better when I'm under pressure. However this paper was definitely not a paper to put off to the last minute. This paper took lots of time and definitely a lot of research. I had picked a topic that i did know a little bit about and that i was interested in. However in order to write a paper at this extent it took lots of time, research and dedication. I found some of the hardest parts being able to find reliable sources that actually would work for my topic. This was my first time every working with the Waubonsee search engine and it took some time to get use to. This project was also a bit more challenging because of all of the work that went along with it. No none of the work was really that hard, however i waited to do it. So in the end i was rushing to do my paper plus all the extra assignments and it felt like so much. although over all i really do feel like i learned a lot from this project. I definitely got some practice using the Schaffer model which is something i definitely plan on using in the future, It really helped me organize my thoughts and helped my paper flow much smoother. Although i just couldn't seem to get my paragraphs the length i wanted them. Besides that i really don't have any complaints about this project.

Humor is a comic, absurd, or incongruous quality causing amusement. So in my eyes humor to me is my friends. Nothing can make me laugh the way a good night out the girls does. I would definitely agree that a good Jim Carey or Adam Sandler movie is also humor however nothing is as funny to me as my friends. I think every person needs a little humor in their life. Laughing keeps you healthy. I know when I'm with my friends the most pointless are the funniest things in the world. If it wasn't for my friends and the good times i spend with them laughing i don't think i would get through me day, week, or the years they have gotten me through. I would say i am someone who laughs out loud when something is funny, i am not afraid to let it out. However i am not one of those loud obnoxious people that you just have to stare at, because their laugh is so annoying. However on the other hand when Liz laughs i want to slap her. I really don't remember the article we read in onion so i cant say if i thought it was humorous. However i do know if i thought it was very humours i would of remembered it.
When i think of style english normally isnt the first thing that comes to mind. Normally its what the new hottest fashion or what everyone is wearing. However i do beleive that everyone brings their own style to thier writting. I think that each person or even each different paper has its own unique style. However putting style into words isnt all that simple. In my eyes its really what you make of it.

The critical analysis was a bit challenging for me to write. This was definitely a new assignment for me and took quiet a bit of thought. Although I'm sure that is always the goal of the teacher, but most of my assignments have just been to summarize a movie or a book. For this project i actually had to form an argument and look deeper into the picture. I thought the movie was a very good and interesting movie to use for this assignment because it did pose many arguments. However it was very hard to try and make a clear argument for this movie. It was very clear that the movie was trying to prove the point of maturity and when do we ever really grow up, but proving that point was very hard. When do we really grow up? You cant put an age or a time on when a persons grows up. You probably cant even put an exact event that happens that makes a person grow up. although this movie gave many examples of situations that helped theses boys grow up. I was fairly satisfied with my grade on that paper. however i am still a bit confused on how to add other sources into my paper. I know i still need to add outside sources and a works cited page. I also need to work on fixing some of my small grammatical errors. I also seemed to confuse a few of the characters and put the wrong names, even though i was positive i had it right. I feel like i have the basic idea for this paper, i just need to add some minor detail to add some spice to this paper.

Back in high school i remember i could never wait till the day i grew up and finally got to go to college. I always felt i was to mature for my age, and i was ready to grow up already, and move on to the next chapter in my life. Don't get me wrong i did love high school. I had some of the best times of my lives and made my best friends i still have. I was never the girl who played sports, but i was always involved in clubs. I did a lot of leaderships groups throughout my school. Then in senior year i took the best class of my life and it made me realize what i wanted to do for the rest of my life. I enrolled in med topics and experienced some of the most amazing things i had ever seen. After going to the hospital and it experiencing it for myself i knew this is what i wanted to do for the rest of my life. So once it was time to start looking for colleges, i wanted to find one of the best nursing schools close to home i could. I was accepted into UIC and ISU's nursing programs. I made my decision and packed up my bags and headed of to ISU. I would say going away to college was definitely a life changing experience. I loved being away and on my own, but i knew this wasn't really the school for me. So i returned home this and deiced to persue my school for nursing at Waubonsee. Currently school consumes all of my life. Classes such as anatomy and microbiology take up all of my time and i have never found myself studying so hard. However i try and look at the bright side and hope it will pay off in the end.
However i decided to write about pharmaceutical companies and how they are ripping us off. How is it fair that some companies such as Walmart and Meijer can charge only $5 for a prescription while these only drug companies are charging about 15X the cost. Why is it that some drug companies are doing so well in the stock market, could it be because we as consumers are being ripped off? If these drugs are really so expensive to make then why is Canada able to give them out to people for free? There are so many questions that seem to just slip right through the cracks.

No paper is ever perfect, and could be re wrote 100 times before the author feels its right. However this will be my hardest obstacle i will face in this class. As my grade shows my paper needs work, however it is very challenging for me to find more to say when i already wrote something once. Yes you can correct the basic grammatical errors, but i run into trouble adding more depth to my paper once i get around to the second or third revision.
As i said in an earlier blog i tend to have trouble using more interesting words or words that communicate my ideas clearly. This was an area i lost quite a few points for on my paper. So for my next time around i will try and find as many words that seem dull or even confusing and then select a more unique word choice in my next revision.
For my next revision i also need to find a logical order and follow it. However i sort of had trouble with this issue, while writing this paper because it didn't seem to need to follow any order. However I'm sure there is some rearranging that could be done to make this analysis flow better. Also i need to establish a clear audience and refrain from using the word "you". That is a word i cant seem to erase from my vocabulary. So for these next rewrites its all about clarity and establishing a main argument.

I always thought i was the leader in the group, until it came to writing. While working on our informal summaries, i definitely was not the take charge person i normally am in most situations. This was most likely because, i could tell i was not the strongest writer of the group. So during the project i definitely offered my ideas and helped, but my first goal was not to take charge. I sat back a little more on this paper and tried to observe a little more, noticing that Liz had much better wording for a lot of my suggestions.
Normally I'm a huge fan of group work, because i love working with others and seeing what we can all put together. However sometimes in an English class i feel it is harder to work in groups, especially when working on certain writing assignments. This assignment worked out fine for our group, because we all worked well together. However in the end someone had to do way more work, and its hard because we all had diff rent views.
